Definitely one of the best film noirs I have seen and a very good adaptation of Raymond Chandler's novel. Also one of the best films based in LA I have seen. Humphrey Bogart is excellent as usual as Philip Marlowe but it was Lauren Bacall as Mrs.
Rutledge who really shined. Martha Vickers stole every scene as Carmen Sternwood, especially in the end. The ending was also excellent and the directing was very good by the underrated Howard Hawks.
