Review of The Big Sick (2017) by Asher K — 10 Apr 2018
O I adore Kumail Nanjiani from his stand-up (his Pakistani Birthday bit is an all-time favorite) and his turn as Dinesh in Silicon Valley, and was pleased to see him take the lead as co-writer and lead in this autobiographical flick.
I appreciated this movie as a solid romantic comedy with interesting exploration on the culture and experiences of Pakistani-Americans and the pressures from within and without their family and Pakistani community.
I honestly don't think I found the movie as funny as many other people, but I found the screenplay to be top notch, and the onscreen chemistry compelling between Kumail and Ray Romano and Holly Hunter.
