Review of The Big Sick (2017) by Kevin S — 21 Apr 2018
This is a decent, but exceedingly overrated film. The romance is not believable or interesting, which is incredibly odd since it's a true story. I'm sure in real life, there was more to it but what we see in the film is like a teen's version of romance.
When I saw the "romantic" scenes, I had flashbacks to Michael Scott in The Office talking about family ketchup fights. There are a lot of good parts to the film. The story with his family felt much more interesting and important, and the one man show was a funny touch.
There is a lot to like in this film, but the romance is shallow and unbelievable, which really brought it down for me.
