Review of The Big Sick (2017) by Stephen Y — 11 Jul 2017
A story so unbelievable, ridiculous, and heart-warming that you cannot make it up, the Big Sick is a triumph on many levels. The movie explores many heavy topics--culture, religion, romance, marriage, illness, fidelity, etc.
--in a light-hearted (appropriately light-hearted) tone. It was 2 hours of constant laughter, yet 2 hours of intense emotions at the same time. Just the perfect amount of acting by the entire cast to make this story as real as when it happened.
The pacing was perfect. It did not drag nor rush. Personally I really enjoyed ending, as opposed to 20 more minutes of showing Kumail and Emily rekindling their romance. The Big Sick is a fantastic piece both aesthetically and culturally.
