Review of The Big Short (2015) by Robin E — 15 Mar 2016
A breezy jaunt through the financial chicanery that brought down the mortgage market in the USA in 2008, triggering a global recession. Financial stats are designed to be inscrutable, something the film gleefully acknowledges, so McKay uses a succession of tricks to bring this convoluted tale to life, mainly resorting to a strong line-up of actors, breaking the fourth wall and lots and lots of frenzied editing.
It really works, unfolding at a terrific pace with an all-star cast clearly enjoying themselves.
