Review of The Big Short (2015) by David P — 22 Jun 2016
The Big Short is a film that revolves around a very serious topic, but never earns it's dramatic payoff. The Big Short is an unfunny well acted film that spends most of it's time skipping around to each of its cast members talking numbers and percentages that don't help the viewer comprehend what's going on anymore than before.
There's no real character depth here either as these people are doing 'bad' things. You aren't really rooting for them or anybody for that matter. I couldn't wait for this movie to end while I was watching it.
It tries to be so smart that it forgot to tell a truly unique story. It features fourth wall breaking and celebrities explaining things to the audience and tries to be extremely 'cool'. The Big Short is a poor man's Wolf of Wall Street and that's something you can take to the bank.
