Review of The Big Short (2015) by Trilobiteg — 22 Jan 2016
Perhaps it's particularity to taste in comedy and style at the beginning of this movie threw me off a little. Somehow, it didn't feel natural and was almost messily edited one could phrase. Little did I know, we were just getting a taste of the overwhelming and utterly disgusting national doom in 2008 when the American Economy fell right on it's arse.
Phenomenal performances across the board from Bale, Gosling, Pitt and Carrell captivate you to feel not for one person, not even for a few thousand, but millions who lost their homes and jobs. It was almost documentarian how this was shot, keeping it swimmingly entertaining whilst gradually increasing dramatic potential until the final fall.
A pivotal economic film and certainly as good as a lingering concern for the global population has ever been with scatterings of clever, self-aware and helpful humour. I'm impressed how they could make a film with such impossible devices could have such a real tone to it.
