Underlying cause never mentioned! Congress and banking regulators pretty much drove the banks to give home loans to those who had little chance to pay. Seemed like a good idea to some, give the little guy a chance to ride the escalator up on home appreciation.
However, no money down and history of poor credit often go with default.
