Review of The Big Red One (1980) by Pn J — 08 Aug 2009
A very good war film - but falls short of being great. Sam Fuller's semi-autobiographical vision of a small unit of soldiers, and their travails through North Africa and Europe, during World War II is unapolgetically anti-war and way ahead of it's time.
Lee Marvin is fantastic as ever, and is well supported by a young cast including a young Mark Hamill (before he was forever typecast as Luke Skywalker).
