Review of The Big Picture (2013) by James M — 30 Jan 2012
The Big Picture is an exciting, original and fiercely acted drama/thriller from France. Without giving away the plot, the film is about a man who makes the most extreme personal sacrifices in order to protect his children and their memory of him, after an irreversible (and accidental) tragedy risks destroying him and his family, if they were to find out.
This film scores highly because of the quality of the acting and direction, but it loses marks due to some moments of almost laughable implausibility. There is an element of this in a lot films, granted, but it annoyed me more in this one because the rest of The Big Picture was so deliriously good and ultimately makes the film feel a little disjointed in parts.
Daft story shifts and plot lines aside, The Big Picture is absolutely a thoroughly entertaining film.
