Review of The Big Parade (1925) by Sarah F — 05 Jun 2009
The first half of "The Big Parade" is hardly a harrowing war film, but more of a lightweight romance set in France during WWI. But once we finally get to the first battle scene, it becomes apparent that the first half was all a setup for the tragedy that follows.
The violence is a bit dramatized, but is edited with well-timed cuts since silent film doesnâ??t rely on talking-heads dialogue. The real payoff comes in the third act, when our crippled hero stumbles back to the town where he met his lady love, only to find it ruined by bombs.
