Review of The Big One (1997) by Danny B — 06 Oct 2007
At this time Moore hadn't yet mastered his mass appealing and comedic documentary style. Regardless of the valid points they include, the bits of Moore doing almost stand up comedy like presentations must be embarrassing even for him to watch.
I often enjoy Moore's topics of deconstruction and have few conflicts with his personal politics, but as a filmmaker he wasn't yet fully accessible pre-bowling for columbine, which is extremely obvious since his popularity skyrocketed after that flick when he was able to polish his act to reach even the simplest of minds.
This polished act makes me wonder if Moore is actually a great political mind being covered in a necessary public image in order to reach more people, or is he really only as smart as his movies?
