Review of The Big Lebowski (1998) by Thomas L — 22 Feb 2014
"The dude abides".
One if the most twisted, convoluted yet outrageously hilarious comedies of all time, The Big Lebowski is a masterpiece from the Coen Brothers. What makes the film so great is how almost none of the elements add up and yet the film would not be as good if any of it was cut. As for the acting, Jeff Bridges is absolutely perfect as the Dude, the laziest man you'll ever come across, and John Goodman is fantastic as always. The directing even further enhances the comedic aspects of the film, as whole dream sequences adds new layers to the dude in the most awkwardly funny way possible. The pacing is fantastic, and the laughs are by no means few and far between. How Jeff Bridges was not nominated for an oscar is still impossible for me to understand.
The Big Lebowski is a masterpiece in its own unique way. The acting, directing and writing is fantastic, the plot is so comedically strange, and the humor is spot on almost every time.
