A masterful, artistically beautiful, and inspiring Oscar-worthy epic masterpiece about bowling, weed, white russians, porn, German nihilists, teenage car thieves, a pederast named Jesus, a psychotic Vietnam vet, kidnapping, mistaken identity, severed toes, Saddam Hussein, and a soiled rug.

And who could forget the Irish monk? Whatever. Anyway, our protagonist is the ultimate cinematic hero; The Dude is a man to be admired and emulated by anyone who fails to "just take it easy, man.

" In all seriousness though, despite the undeniably high artistic quality, this is as outrageous and twisted as comedy can get; it's a one of a kind work of art that only a filmmaker who could do whatever they wanted could pull off.

The Coen brothers were just those filmmakers, using their respectability to throw every random idea they could at the screen whether it made sense or not, and the results are beautiful in their pointlessness.

Take the most confusing film-noir detective story you've ever seen, replace the confident all-knowing hero with a burnt-out hippie who barely knows where he is half the time, and you've got a start; there's no way to adequately describe The Big Lebowski.

See it for yourself, and then see it again and again, which is almost guaranteed to happen.
