The phrase, "Not appreciated in his/her/it's own time", is used quite often and usually in the realm of arts and entertainment. The Big L is one such piece of art. I finally bought this on Blu and it looks and sounds glorious.

On the special features, Julianne Moore explains how funny she thought it was and that she had just been a part of something special but that most of the people she talked to didn't quite get it. John Turturro had a different story, he was one of the ones that didn't really get it.

He thought it was funny but, him, like critics at that time, thought that movie lacked something their previous efforts like Fargo, had. He said it wasn't until he sat down and watched it with his son that really got it.

And now he sees why it's such a comedic classic. So there you go, two different types of Lebowski watchers, the one's that recognize its brilliance right away and those that just don't get it.

Though maybe those who don't get it, should take another look. I saw it with 10 people on it's opening weekend. 9 out of 10 didn't get it. I did. I laughed the entire time and loved it immediately.

The 9 people with me thought I was nuts. The script is the most quotable and quoted since Casablanca and 16 years later, the soundtrack is still amazing, Jeff Bridges, John Goodman, Julianne Moore and Philip Seymour Hoffman are still robbed of Oscar Noms and the Dude still abides.

One of my favorite movies of all time.
