Review of The Big Lebowski (1998) by Bradley W — 30 Apr 2015
The Big Lebowski is my favorite comedy of all time, and for very good reason. It's a masterpiece of the genre and is without question the Coen's brothers best comedy. Its the cult classic to rule over all cult classics, and I am glad the test of time showed critics the errors of their ways.
Jeff Bridges gave us one of the best characters of all time with Jeff "The Dude" Lebowski. He is a lazy slacker who we absolutely love. He bowls, smokes weed, hangs out with his friends Walter and Donny, and gets caught up in a journey that is as crazy as it is hilarious.
Bridges brings a lot of life to this role, and is one of those rare performances that feels like the actor was born to play. John Goodman's performance as Walter is also brilliantly iconic. He is insane, philosophical, and has a haircut that still makes me laugh to this day.
The entire cast is great, Steve Buscemi, Julianne Moore, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, John Turturro, they all just shine. The Coen's truly created a classic here where every line of dialogue is iconic.
The Big Lebowski is a film that will go down in history as one of the best comedies of all time, and is one of my favorite movies ever.
