Review of The Big Lebowski (1998) by Johnk. — 30 Jun 2006
This movie got some bad reviews because it takes a few watches and some real thought to get its fantastic humor. It's a highbrow comedy in a lowball costume, and many critics didn't understand that when it was released.
Ultimately it is deep with rich themes and a great cast, and nearly every line in the movie has become legendary. There's a strong case to be made that this is the funniest movie of all time, and one of the best movies overall; it's a shame it suffered critical distaste due to its complex nature and, of course, that it was the Coen bros.
follow up to Fargo.
