Review of The Big Lebowski (1998) by Chillindylan G — 21 Feb 2015
I don't know what to say about this film. beautifully shot. love the dreams sequences. John Turturro is hilarious. not real big on the plot. rather anticlimactic. furthered my theory that steve buscemi is a beautiful dier. made me love philip seymour Hoffman a little more. he's amazing! I love how weird it is.
New Thoughts.
I understand now that the whole point of this movie is that there is no point. The film analyst in me is ripping my hair out, cause I want so much for things like Saddam Hussein handing The Dude his bowling shoes to mean something. It doesn't. It's just funny. The Coens are probably just doing stuff like that on purpose to laugh at people like me who try to analyze it. It's my job, okay? I don't like Maude. I love Julianne Moore but her character is just so pretentious and says things that feel really forced. Jackie Treehorn is in the same ballpark. But still. I like this movie's humor. I love John Goodman. I love when they visit Larry Sellers. I love how quotable the movie is. I like the weird dynamic of Walter and The Dude cause they feel like two opposite archetypes from their generation: the hippie and the vietnam vet. I like this movie a LOT but I wouldn't say that I love it. It's not my favorite comedy and I don't think it's worth all the fuss.
