Review of The Big Heat (1953) by Anna S — 16 Feb 2010
When a police officer shoots himself, sgt. Dave Bannion (Glenn Ford) is called to investigate. The police officer's mistress gives Bannion a lead and she gets popped off. Then, in a failed attempt at taking Bannion's life, Bannion's wife gets popped off when a bomb goes off in.
.. Bannion's car. It turns out an organization of mobsters is behind all three deaths. Bannion resolves to avenge his wife's murder. At a nightclub he meets Debby Marsh (Gloria Gramhame), a gun moll who decides to help Bannion because her mobster-boyfriend treats her badly.
For talking to Bannion behind his back Debby's boyfriend scalds her with hot coffee, scarring one side of her face (and she later takes revenge by dropping hot coffee on him). In the end, Debby pops off the police officer's widow with Bannion's gun and then somebody shoots her and they all live happily ever after -- after death.
