Review of The Big Doll House (1971) by Cassandra M — 10 Oct 2009
Really greasy politically incorrect fun! Jack Hill has made an unapollogetically selazy and kitsch WIP (= Women in Prison) classic. Unlike, it's sequel, the film completely lacks a political subtext, and a plot, at least in a traditional conception of the term. The film merely follows the regular formula for WIP films, as dictated by Jess Franco (who pretty much single handedly created this wonderful subgengre of exploitation cinema) in 99 women. Girl enters prison, lesbianism & torture ensues, and it all culminates in a climax of a jail riot and a subsequent escape.
It may be simple but that doesn't make it any less groovy & fun.
