The underwater cinematography is unreal. documentary quality. the story is a bit underwhelming (a luc besson M.O., unfortunately), though it manages to elicit plenty of genuine laughs and a tear or two. the more fantastical elements are actually quite fascinating.
One complaint: Joanna is really a non-entity until Enzo's (brief) girlfriend tells her she should have a baby, at which point the focus of the movie jolts and shifts to her. either this is the only way to manufacture tension (thus lending weight to Mayol's decision) or is a blatant reduction of the female species to "irrational baby-maker.".
