Review of The Big Bang (2011) by Jura O — 24 May 2011
Playing out pitch-perfectly in the tradition of David Lynch lite, The BIG BANG is ultimately and immediately just that. Come to find out that when two atoms collide underground it makes for a total blast in more ways than one.
I found this moody, multicolored Antonio Banderas vehicle to be hands down, the best thing he's ever done; and yes, I have seen Desperado. Though frequently reserved and playing on subtly, Banderas attacks his post-modern noir P.
I. role with a refreshingly classical approach as he confronts the laundry list of hilarious cameos with a quietly weird, monotone comfort. Overall, the best part of THE BIG BANG is that this is a cool film that is deliberately designed for a traditionally uncool audience; ultimately proving the theory that nerds can have fun too.
