Review of The BFG (2016) by Sam A — 23 Jul 2016
The BFG was ok, but sadly not great.
I went into The BFG expecting a fun light hearted adventure. What I ended up with was dull and slightly boring affair...
The graphics were good in places but ultimately distracting.
The BFG is wonderfully captured and Mark Rylance performance really brings this gentle giant to life.
The rest of the Giants are just a little too cartoony and not in the slightest scary or entertaining. The film really grounds to a halt whenever they enter the fray.
Sophie performed by Ruby Barnhill, is very energetic and she is a consistently passionate performer. She's fine in the role just annoying...
The music has some charming themes, but nothing to leave you with once you start you journey home.
Spielberg's tone can be felt throughout the movies runtime and several scenes are wonderfully framed and captured. It's just a shame the script and performances don't live up to his high standards.
If you're looking for a fun distraction for the family, this isn't it...
