Review of The BFG (2016) by Brad S — 15 Jan 2017
"The BFG" was Steven Spielberg's biggest box-office failure to date, but it isn't that bad. Unfortunately, it isn't great either. Based on a Ronald Dahl story and mixing motion capture and live action, and with a script from the writer of "E.
T.", this one had potential. But it didn't fully work for me. The motion capture VFX are pretty good and I liked Mark Rylance's performance, but some how the film seemed mechanical and lacking heart for me, which is what had made "E.
T." such an incredible film, its heart. So not Spielberg's best, but I at least found it worth a watch.
