I'm not going to go into what this movie is about because at this point, you should probably know of Roald Dahl's classic story, The BFG. This movie, however, was directed by Steven Spielberg and it's score created by the one and only, John Williams, so I was going to go and see this no matter what.

Overall, I feel like this film is a great family film that I feel that kids are going to grow up loving. The first half of the movie was amazing, and Spielberg continues to sustain awe, which I feel is what he does best. Being able to see all of these amazing sights through this girl's eyes was really great to see not only because of truly great motion capture work and a really amazing performance by Mark Rylance but because we were watching these events unfold through the eyes of someone who is so imaginative. This character played by Ruby Barnhill, who by the way is absolutely fantastic in this movie and is one of Spielberg's best child performances in quite some time. She's a very stubborn and likeable character and was by far one of the most entertaining parts of this movie and for me, shot above all of the amazing CGI. Where the film faltered for me was sustaining that awe and that wonder for the second half of the movie. The second half can be a little bogged down with some unnecessary sequences. There is some hilarious comedy, some surprisingly funny gross-out comedy, it really made me laugh. It's just that that second half really lost some steam for me and despite the fact that the performances were very good, the villainous characters were very one-dimensional giants who just wanted to pick on everybody. It just kind of broke apart at the end.

I just think that kids who grow up today will love this movie and even in the future they will still love this movie. Steven Spielberg is still making some of the best films out there so I'm going to give this movie an 8. It's positives outweighed it's negatives and the acting and CGI was spot-on.
