Review of The Best of Me (2014) by Wayne C — 17 Oct 2014
Actually, my 3 star rating is a very generous one. The overall film is a muddled mess...BUT...I really liked some things about it. The music, the setting, the cinematography are all very fine. I liked the four lead actors and their performances although Luke Bracey is the worst casting since Diana Ross played Dorothy in THE WIZ.
He plays the character at high school age that James Marsden plays 2O years later. First, Luke Brach was 25 years old when the film was shot and the character was late teens. He could pass for 30 more easily than he could pass for a teenager although he is very attractive.
Further, these two actors don't look anything alike. Further, there are far too much plot lines and it never really comes together. Michelle Monaghan is terrific and deserves to be a star. Liana Liberato is effective and lovely.
Lastly, the big surprise at the conclusion is sweet but impossible to swallow.
