Review of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012) by Brad K — 24 Sep 2012
Sweet, feel-good movie with instant appeal for anyone with an interest in India. The film is ostensibly about a group of elderly discovering themselves via the difficulties of living in India, but presents a rather sanitized version of the country -- the casting of Dev Patel adds to this (he feels Western, not Indian), as does a cinematographic style that is decidedly British in execution.
But authenticity aside, and allowing for some overly-convenient story moments, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel is a nice movie that deserves to be enjoyed for its depiction of the frustration of growing old in a Western country, and the beauty of growing young again in an Eastern one.
