It's not just sub-par, it's actually bad. The script feels lazily tossed together at the last minute and some attempts at visual grandeur come across as brutally pretentious.
That said, the cast is superb: some of the best acting I've seen in a recent movie. Come for the cast, but don't expect anything beyond a showcase for some great old actors, because there's nothing to this.
