Review of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012) by Natalie F — 27 Jan 2013
I like films that don't stick to the tried and tested when it comes to protagonists and intended audiences. In the sea of endless 20-somethings going about their lives & respective love lives, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel offers up a cast of seniors - and what a cast it is - trying to start their lives over in the beautiful, if not a little overwhelming, Indian retirement home.
The acting is enchanting, and the endless insights of human nature are poignant and effective. However, this is a British comedy set in India, utilising the beauty and the richness of the Indian backdrop and not entirely dutiful in giving a real picture of India as anything but a British getaway.
This aside, the film was delicate, and respectful to its host, and earns itself a commendable 4 stars in the process.
