Review of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012) by Tango G — 17 Mar 2013
Although it seemed rather unrealistic at first, I soon bought into the various premises that led this pack of elderly Brits to head off to a colorful retirement adventure in India. I couldn't help wondering how some of the characters could be so fearless in their new surroundings, treating it like an adventure holiday at times, and so optimistic at the prospect of living out the rest of their retirement in such a rundown (if exotic) place, but perhaps that's part of their charm.
The short of it-- this film is full of intense emotions and real-life situations, and everyone in the cast (Dev Patel as the young Indian hotel manager included) churns out moving, memorable performances.
The real value of this film is that these characters make you laugh, feel, and care about them, as well as inspire you with their wisdom and courage.
