Review of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012) by John H — 21 Mar 2013
The movie is fine and fun but contains a very serious flaw. People who are obvious pensioners would not, if they have a speck of sense, consider moving to India for their final years. British State Pensions are 'frozen' (non-indexed) from the day a recipient leaves Britain to live permanently in any one of a very long list of countries around the world, of which India is one.
The Maggie Smith and Judi Dench characters found paid employment which they would certainly need to do to survive; what happens to them when they are no longer able to work is not shown. Back to the UK whether they like it not as that is the only way to have a UK State Pension reinstated to the indexed state that exists in the UK, Europe, the USA and a handful of other countries.
I'm surprised the producers didn't bother to discover this ugly truth.
