Review of The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel (2012) by James W — 13 Jun 2013
Even though it's filled with the golden oldies of British talent who are deliver wonderful performances, the films tone and dialogue comes off very youth in nature, taking all the fun from the idea of having a bunch of tightly wound, stiff moaning old Brits on holiday.
But, it does have it's fair share of great moments. Penelope Hilton is a good laugh, but it's Maggie Smith that delivers the biggest laughs as a crude, ignorant, and sometimes racist hip replacement patient.
The story is sweet and simple, and there are many touching moments but this is more of a drama than a comedy, but the drama aspects work very well mainly when Dench and Wilkinson come on screen.
