Review of The Benchwarmers (2006) by Jacob M — 01 Mar 2014
Wildly unfunny comedy from Adam Sandler's Happy Madison production company. Directed by frequent Sandler director Dennis Dugan, the film follows three loser adults played by David Spade in a bad wig, Jon Heder doing a variation of his Napoleon Dynamtite and Rob Schneider playing the badass of the group, forming a little league team to inspire nerdy benchwarmer kids everywhere.
There's a decent supporting cast that includes Jon Lovitz, Craig Kilborn, Molly Sims, Nick Swardson, Tim Meadows, Regie Jackson, Rachel Hunter and Terry Crews, but that can't rescue this unfunny and tired underdog story.
I wasn't exactly expecting Preston Sturges or Billy Wilder quality out of this film, but I did at least expect something in the same league as "Little Nicky".
