Review of The Belly of an Architect (1987) by Alexander C — 21 Jan 2008
Greenaway once more delivers a romantic, symbolic and aestheticist experience. The problem is that this time he misses the nail. True, some scene are sublime and sometimes he manages to put on the screen such feelings as pain, loneliness and specially jealousy.
But overall it is fairly boring, no one really cares about any of the characters and some of the actors are straight out bad (Lambert Wilson as a fascist-leaning Italian architect is ridiculous). One thing really excited me though: the music.
It is exciting and daunting at the same time.
