Review of The Believer (2001) by Jan R — 12 Dec 2007
Ryan Gossling shines in this movie.
Follows the theme that one should not hate other's or your own people or hate yourself because of present altercations and struggles with one's immediate family, because you hate yourself.
Gossling portrays a troubled youth that conveys an adamantly appalling anti semitic perspective, while unbeknownst to those around him that he is actually an Orthodox Jew. His secret that he is actually an Orthodox Jew that is revealed and the film explores his coming to grip with his issues of hatred towards himself, his family and that unfortunately lead towards his a hatred towards his heritage.
A very powerful film and powerful portrayal. Worth seeing! Based on a true story.
