Review of The Believer (2001) by ?Eljko M — 10 Jun 2009
Goslings best performance, that I've seen anyway. Most people tend to know him for his role in romantic films such as The Notebook, but alongside his performance in Lars and the Real Girl, this is where he showcases his true talents as an up-and-coming actor.
His portrayal of a mixed-up Jewish man turned hate filled antisemitic Nazi is outstanding. The cast is generally good, but his performance outshines them all. Of course, comparisons to American History X will be made, but this is more intelligent and fixated on the account of the main man involved, not a friend, or a brother who has been influenced by his actions.
A thinking man's movie. I enjoyed it a lot, despite the political tones (which are usually of no interest to me).
