Review of The Believer (2001) by Kevin R — 02 Dec 2010
Do you think people ever commit suicide out of happiness?
Danny Balint grew up in Jewish schools constantly rebelling against the Jewish beliefs and teachings. As an adult he becomes a Nazi that preaches against and beats down Jews. As his followers become more and more violent, Danny begins to question his own path and beliefs.
"Isn't that what we really want, Germany all over again, only done right this time?".
Henry Bean, director of Noise, delivers The Believer in his directorial debut. The storyline for this picture is entertaining and well delivered. The content is similar to Higher Learning but not quite as good. The acting is first rate and the cast includes Ryan Gosling, Summer Phoenix, and Peter Meadows.
"I don't care about money.".
"You will.".
The Believer is a film I have been trying to see for some time but it never aired on cable for the longest time. BrunetteHepburnGirl told me about this film ages ago and she was right in that the acting is remarkable. The overall premise is not as good as some films with similar content, but it is definitely worth your time. I recommend seeing this picture.
"If Hitler didn't kill six million, why is he your hero?".
Grade: B+.
