Review of The Beguiled (2017) by Anthony K — 03 Oct 2017
Well cast, lusciously shot, and with a tight script, The Beguiled is a great little story that feels at times like a play come to screen. Perhaps more accurately, I feel like it is a throwback to classic films of the 50s in the vein of Arsenic and Old Lace.
I do feel I was sold a thriller, but without a doubt, The Beguiled is a drama with just a few moments of *expertly* crafted tension and suspense. If the premise and look of the film intrigues you, just watch it.
