Review of The Beguiled (1971) by Matty S — 14 Jan 2014
Consistently bordering on sleaze, but never straying from the psycho-sexual tension of this odd bit of Southern Gothica. Clint Eastwood has never looked better, but his character is a bit of sweetly twisted candy ready to set fire to the repression that appears to have been simmering for quite a while.
As per usual, Geraldine Page gives an engaging and searing performance. Don Siegel's odd little film is literally seething with sex and the tables are most definitely turned on Eastwood's classic persona.
This film was highly underrated upon its initial release and deserves to be rediscovered.
