Review of The Bed Sitting Room (1969) by Stephen C — 04 Nov 2010
Simply Glorious and off beat satire from master director Richard Lester.
Based on a playby John Antrobus and Spike Milligan, you know your in for a treat when the cast are listed in order of height.
The premise is simple 20 people have survived the nuclear incident nad now wonder the wasteland of London doing all kinds of rather bizzare things.
The cast is simply marvellous nwith Michael Horden as the only doctor left.Spike Milligain as his usual trampy jobsworth,Marty Feldman as a demented nurse,Harry Secombe as an even more demented survivor ,Roy Kinnear a s a man obssesed with rubber and pete and Dud as two policeman.
And of course Ralph Richardson who turns into the titled Bed Sitting Room.
Lesters visual eye never flags with his ruined London being very very striking.
Add to this some utterly memorable and very funny dialogue and you have one of the directors greater and funnier works.
