Review of The Beaver (2011) by Zack B — 08 Sep 2011
Despite the somewhat ridiculous plot, I was moved by this film and I don't think it would've been possible without Mel Gibson or the warm direction of Jodie Foster. It's not a great film, it didn't pull me in as much I expected it to based off of the trailer.
I don't know why that is. Perhaps it was hard to understand everything that was going on with the puppet. There were so many questions unanswered and in the end they were left unresolved in my head.
Nevertheless, Mel Gibson delivers a stunning performance as he usually does. This is why I love the man. He's talented. That doesn't absolve or excuse him from his faults, but his faults are his own and in principle should be left as his own, but alas poor Mel is a victim of the modern age when dull minded people must know everything a star is up to.
When television channels have nothing better to show than stories of the misdeeds and setbacks of the rich and famous. I don't care about what he has done. I don't know the man. I don't think I should know about those things.
I admire his work and his great contribution to film history. He is a face that I never tire of seeing. This is another solid Mel Gibson performance.
