Review of The Beaver (2011) by Michael V — 06 Oct 2011
Mel proves that he is still a powerhouse. He plays this role perfectly and the viewer is sucked into the emotion and distress of all characters dealing with their own challenges. Everybody's acting was totally spot on, never once seeming over the top or forced.
Jodie Foster has done a sterling job on the director's chair skillfully taking the viewer on a journey in what I would have thought not a particularly easy film to direct. And some have criticized Jodie Foster's directing, but I found the film to be wonderfully balanced with the right amount of comedy and tragedy.
And the side story between Anton Yelchin and Jennifer Lawrence could have been it's own movie all together and very nicely structured. And the whole beaver character is wonderful by himself doing a perfect impersonation of Ray Winstone.
And if all this isn't enough you do get a moment or two with Jennifer Lawrence in a cheerleader outfit. YEAH. Cheerleader.
