Nothing to do with the Andre Norton novel they bought the rights to, it spawned two weak sequels and an equally weak tv series. Despite all this, it still has some very effective moments of excellence.

Mark Singer's sword work and his rapor with the 4 animals is great. John Amos is always cool and does a good job in his brief appearance. There are some excellent, chilling special effects (the witch with the cow, the ring with the eye in it, the vampire creatures, etc.

) and some great sets. Let down by some weak (Tanya Roberts) and OTT (Rip Torn) acting, otherwise a great fantasy in the vein of Conan the Barbarian.
