Leonardo Di Caprio's thoughtful backpacker remains one of his most memorable screen roles to date and a gleaming combination of great cinematography and well-written characters give Boyle's film a real raw, personal quality; the substance of which is precisely what makes the movie so consistently engaging. What better escapism is there than a film focused on the pursuit and discovery of paradise?
