Review of The Beach (2000) by Lucas C — 24 May 2015
What an absolutely dreadful piece of cinema. I thought that the man who the director of Ex Machina worked with for so many years would have delivered better than this garbage. I give it a D rating at best.
You see, there wasn't a single person in the entire film who I liked. Sure it had a stereotypical Hollywood ending where the main character learns something after a grueling conflict and ends up living happily ever after, but that was not enough to get me to like him.
I think this is because the whole thing was just too much for me. Danny Boyle did an awful job. This film was extremely melodramatic and was full of unorthodox switches in tone. I would have preferred to watch a soap opera.
On top of all this, I did not understand what all of the conflict was about. I think the whole thing seemed forced: very representative of the fast paced turn of the century lifestyle inspired by video gaming and electro pop.
Stay away from this film, unless you want a lesson in bad cinema.
