Review of The Bay (2012) by Eric A — 09 May 2013
Just another fine example of how out of touch critics can be. This film isn't terrible but it constantly skirts disaster. There is a fine message buried in here but when it is revealed that the culprit behind the appearance of the creepy-crawlies is chicken poop and steroids leaching into the Chesapeake Bay I couldn't hold my laughter in any longer.
Director Barry Levinson sets us up for some big chills but never quite pulls it off. We've already seen better takes on this sort of body horror in films like Alien and, quite similarly, Slither. The lack of a script is pretty apparent throughout and the actors performances are often uninspired at best.
I wanted to like this movie but it consistently fell short despite a few effectively gross/disturbing scenes.
