Review of The Bay (2012) by Jerico T — 24 Apr 2015
I'm very picky when it comes to horror films. I laugh at the people who think "Annabelle" and "Saw" are good movies. What separates this film from your standard horror film from others is how real it feels.
The parasite in this film is actually a real animal, and the point about what steroids in live stock meat can do to other organisms is scary. The meat/steroids thing isn't a myth. Just look at people.
There are girls in the 3rd grade growing breasts. That's not normal. It's all in our food, and though it's slightly exaggerated in the movie, it's a real enough concept to chill you , and the found footage element only makes it feel more real.
The parasite/body horror stuff is what gets me, and this more is disturbing gore wise as well as social commentary wise. The film is well executed, creepy, and clever and is one of the better horror - thrillers on the last couple years.
It got under my skin and never left, and that means something with me.
