Review of The Battle of Love's Return (1971) by David T — 26 Jun 2014
Its neat to see how Troma's own twisted Walt Disney, Lloyd Kaufman, got his start. This is not at all what you'd expect it to be. This feels more like a cross between a Paul Morrissey/Warhol production and an early Woody Allen film than a Troma movie.
While it has an undeniably goofy cheapo exterior, it has a definite seriousness to be found within. The social commentary is spot-on, and the documentary-esque moments interspersed throughout are an excellent touch.
