More often than not, when it comes to a low-budget drama or horror film people are inclined to mention how good of a film it is in relation to its budget and/or production value. The Battery was a fantastic movie, and I would say the same even if it was released by a major Hollywood studio. It is important to note, however, that the zombie theme throughout the movie is just that - a theme - whereas the real meat of the movie lies in the relationship between Jeremy Gardner and Adam Cronheim's characters Ben and Mickey, respectively, as they try to cope in a ruined world where the only people they know are each other.

Ben is the ultimate realist, and Mickey is the ultimate idealist, causing the two of them to butt heads on just about everything - except the fact that they know, in a way, they need each other even if it puts one or both of them at risk.

Without trying to give too much of The Battery away, it's absolutely worth a watch and the money to rent it for anyone who really enjoys zombie movies or, more importantly, deep character studies.
