Review of The Batman (2022) by The_Rig_Himself — 04 Mar 2022
This film is the definitive Batman film. The story is thrilling, every punch is felt, Batman's motivations and obsession is clear from the very beginning and it shows us a side to Batman we haven't previously seen, leaning into the psychology of his character heavily.
His detective skills are also front and centre whilst not taking away from the action you would come to expect from a Batman story. The choreography is the best we've seen out of any existing Batman film, the gadgets are all practical and grounded in reality, the world feels alive and lived in, the acting is also superb throughout.
The cinematography and score elevates all of the aforementioned too. My only critiques of the film is the pacing gets awkward toward the later half as it feels like it's going to end in at least 3 different times which takes away from the eventual climax and that it is apparent at times it's being held back by its PG-13 rating.
Particularly when characters endure great physical punishment with little to no injury shown afterward. Otherwise it was simply fantastic and easily my favorite Batman film to date. It also leaves room for Batman to grow in the sequels making me all the more keen for the sequels.
